Reid's
love of the outdoors can be traced back to the weekends
and summers spent at his family's vacation home on the
shores of Lake Gaston. It was there during the 1980's
that he learned how to fish, and with the guidance and
support of his father, where he learned to love the sport.
"Some of my best childhood memories revolve around
chasing those big stripers and largemouths all over that
lake," he says. And he was happy doing just that...
until the tournament fishing bug bit during the summer
of 1997!
At the persuasion of a friend, Reid and a co-worker entered
the T&B Bonanza Bass Open, a well known local team
tournament. "I really never thought about fishing
competitively before that," he admits. "My boss
owed me a favor, so he paid the $40.00 entry fee for us.
I borrowed my brother-in-law's boat and truck, and off
we went." Call it beginner's luck, or just dumb luck,
but they won the tournament, and Reid took home the lunker
trophy for a 6lbs, 8 oz beauty! While he doesn't win every
time out, he has managed five tournament victories since
then, several more lunker awards, and has recorded many
top five finishes. Reid's
love of competitive angling has taken him a step further
than just fishing tournaments, however. In 1998, he co-founded
the Wayne County Bass Assassins, a B.A.S.S. federation
chapter, and he served as president, vice-president, and
tournament director during the first few years. The club's
primary focus is hosting the Kiwanis Open Team Bass Tournament,
which attracts anglers from all over the state. It is
an annual fund-raising event which supports the Boy's
and Girl's Home of North Carolina. Reid served as tournament
director for this event three times and still participates
each year. After
a move in early 2002 to the piedmont of North Carolina,
Reid began the process of learning the new lakes and rivers
in the region and of getting involved in the tournament
scene. He also introduced "Reid's Lake Flyer",
his company's tournament grade spinnerbait, to the anglers
in the area. Reid is proud of his accomplishments in the
sport to date, and looks forward to building on a promising
fishing career. He also looks forward to the questions
and comments from the many regulars and visitors of Bassin'USA.com! |
