Michael has been hooked on fishing since he was 4 years old when his Uncle, who owns the local tackle shop, took him to a private farm pond. At age 18, he fished in his first bass tournament with the Southeast Nebraska Bass Club. From there he began to venture into larger and more competitive tournaments. Over the last few years he has spent most of his time fishing local tournaments and bringing three future bass fishermen into the world. However, Michael is ready to get back into the more competitive side of fishing. He feels the time is right as he has used this time to fine tune his skills and develop new techniques.

His favorite achievement to date was to catch an 8.36 lb. largemouth bass in Nebraska. This feat won the State Championship and allowed him to fish in the finals of the 1994 Big Bass World Championship. In 2001, he topped that fish with a 10 lb. largemouth, and new lake record, at Lake Las Vegas near Henderson, Nevada. As with all anglers, he has also had tough years of fishing, but feels these experiences have only made him a better person and angler.

Michael is also very generous with the knowledge he has accumulated. He enjoys teaching others about bass fishing and taking others out for a day of learning on the water. His favorite group to teach is kids, the future of the sport. He has developed a web site, Young Angler, dedicated to teaching kids about the sport of fishing.
