Herb has been an avid angler since his father first
introduced him to it at the age of 5. He began competition
fishing in 1976 with a local bass club. He is a charter
member of his current bass club, Erie Bay Bassers, which
was formed in 1980. He has been a member of B.A.S.S.
and the Ohio B.A.S.S. Chapter Federation since 1976.
Herb enjoys the wide variety of water conditions available
in his state. He calls Lake Erie his home water but
can often be found at any of the impoundments and rivers
throughout Ohio. Diversity, mind set and practice are
the keys to his success as a proven tournament angler.
He prefers plastics and especially a tube but throws
spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs or topwater when the
conditions warrant. If you can't find Herb, chances
are, he's on the water perfecting his skills or trying
something a little out of the ordinary to provide an
edge, which will cause an otherwise uninterested bass
to hit. Herb fishes a full compliment of tournaments
throughout the season. These
include Salmoides, Anglers Choice, Federation Regional
and State events, club tournaments and a number of open
tournaments across the state. He will be representing
Ohio as part of the 12 man State Team participating
in the Northern Divisional Tournament at Georgian Bay,
Ontario in September.
In the off season, if there is such a thing to the
serious tournament angler, Herb will attend tackle and
outdoor shows, gather information and learn new techniques
of the trade. He believes that one only gets out of
something, what they are willing to put into it. Herb
also in involved with the many facets of the federation,
including youth oriented projects. He states that the
future of fishing lies in the hands of our youth. Take
a kid fishing. |
