swimbait101, right around this time of year when it starts to warm up is when the bass start coming back into the shallow water. They come in close on the north end first usually but sooner or later they will be in close on the south end as well.

It will be especially good if the water stays at a constant level throught the spring... floating the bouy line all the way across.

Last year on March 18, like only ten days from now is when I caught my PB LMB from the shoreline on the south end of Castaic Lagoon. The water was so low then the bouy line was not floating.

Yamamoto Fat Boy Ika, 194J Watermellon, rigged up on 10 lb. Toray flourocarbon line weightless skirt forward, #4 black chrome EWG hook, a little craw Smelly Jelly on the tenticles of the Ika.

I would say the water was about 20 ft. deep where the fish hit the lure, about twenty-five yars or so off shore. The water level was low and I was about halfway across on the exposed rocks in front of the spillway.

The last time I was at the Lagoon, that area was underwater and the level was way up as the water was going over the spillway at the south end. I would say when I caught that one the water level was probably about five feet below full pool.

I'll be up at Castaic tomorrow but I haven't decided yet wether to go to the Upper Lake around the West ramp area or hit the Lagoon again. Last week I got zeroed on the south end of the Lagoon.

Good fishing to ya, later........... geobass

That would be cool Roboworm99. PM me when you get a time in mind.

I'm usually a Saturday guy, but I'm flexible..... could maybe even take off a day from work and do it during the week when it's not too crowded.

Let me know!!

Good fishing to ya, later............ geobass

Ok guys here it is,

I went shore fishing for 20 minutes. Yes 20 minutes. I unfortunately ended up with one bite and landed no fish. I was beside a very good friend and he managed to catch 2 fish. Well the best part was he needed me to lip and assist on landing one of the bass. I would have to say this fish went between 8.5 and 9 pounds. This was one of the biggest Long Island bass's I have ever seen. This time on LI you can not keep Bass, so no wieghing equipment was on hand. This all happend in a 20 minute window which makes it incredible. I was more than happy to assist landing the fish as I have done this twice before with what we call Mr. Bass for him. I will not take any more thunder out of the story because I hope to see him post the story and the Bass on the site. I would have to say this was "Shore fishing at it's best".
