I just got back into fishing after being out of it for 30+ years. Starting this summer, I've probably shore fished 20 days. I've found a few things that worked. A small floating Rapala and an a Berkley Powerbait worm fished weighless being drug through the tops of deeper dropoffs loaded with weeds.

Shore fishing can be tough but only because we have limited mobility. I prefer spinnerbaits, plastic worms and jigs for shore fishing because they aren't as prone to snag. Be sure to look for any underwater cover, boat docks, fishing piers, rock jetties and fish them thoroughly. Walk slowly and softly. Sound from your steps will transfer into the water and spook close to shore fish. Cast ahead of you as you walk. Cast out into open water on ocassion just in case. Carry as little tackle as needed and spend several casts at any good looking spot. Don't be in a hurry. Good luck, Johnnie Crain

Read above, crankbaits steady retrieve, spinnerbaits, slow to steady, jigs slow, worms slow, topwaters slow. Johnnie

Another important one Johnnie and I am sure you know is when approaching the shore line if possible camo yourself with a tree if one in near by. I will find myself lining up with the tree so the bass can not see you. Also not having your shadow reflect into the lake or pond is real important. Our bass friends can see more than we think they do.

You're right Nunz those ole bass can see above the water. That's what makes sight fishing a challenge.
I forgot to mention that 99 percent of the time I fish parallel to the shoreline and usually cast within four feet of the bank. I figure if they are active they should be able to see it. Also, I ALWAYS cast into the wind, that way since the bass are facing the wind, my bait will be coming right to the fish and not snaeking up behiond them.

Nunz I could't agree more about the camo from shoreline.

Whenever I go fishing I wear as much camo as I can. Even my boots are camo!!!

I was saving this photo for my return to fishing report of 2008 but what the heck.... it gets the point across.

Description: Camo from the shoreline is the only way to fly. Plus nobody will mess with you if they think you're a Marine!!! LOL
