This one is for ALL members of the BassinUSA Pro Staff: If you absolutely needed a quick limit this time of the year and could pick your water, season, bait, the whole scenario------What would it be? JoeM

Joe,
Interesting scenario... I'm also interested in seeing what these guys have to say. I know that we probably will not hear from them until next week... 3 of the guys are having computer problems... Maybe they should stick to fishing, eh?

BC- If the guys had a problem on the water, all of them would have come up with a workaround. The problem is that the only workaround for a computer is another computer. Tell them to hang in there, Bill Gates will be here as soon as he has a free moment. Good Fishing, Joe

Your question is a bit confusing, but if you want to know where, when and how to get my quickest limit, thats easy. It would be the Potomac River in mid-May, preferably overcast, but does not need to be. The tide would be dropping, and I would be fishing main river grassbeds with a perch colored spinnerbait with a number 3 colorado (silver), and a number 4.5 willow. It is easy to get a quick limit, and a large limit under those conditions, by burning the spinnerbait over the grass, and then killing it so it drops into the holes. Most of the time you can actually see the bass come up and grab it the second it starts to fall. I spent the entire month of May (and most of June) there this past season, and had numerous days with not only quality fish, but quantity too. It is perhaps the best body of water I have ever fished.

Tim- It was confusing because of the added words "this time of year". Take that phrase out of the equation and your answer is right on. Reading what you said makes me anxious to drive back from Florida in May and stop for awhile in Virginia/Maryland. Keep up the great posts. Thanks again. JoeM

I would pick the Mississippi River, with a normal level in July. Then find a small cut through the back water islands, with a slight current, and flip brush piles, stumps, lay downs (whatever cover) with craw worms.

Joe, Give me Greenwood Lake a Daiwa Rick clunn 7" Crankin stik 20# silver thread line and a Chartreuse 3/4oz. Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap and the New Jersey flats from Fox Island to the mouth of Belchers creek. Motorguide trolling motor on high and marker bouy ready to be kicked overboard when I catch my first Bass. Water temp about 52 to 58 degrees and about 3' to 10' with scattered weeds and stumps. However this year the water has been drawn down a bit(As a note stop by Franks Bait and tackle on route 23 on the way to the Lake, great selection of Senkos and Lucky craft lures and a very helpful staff!!!) [QUOTE]Originally posted by JoeM: [QB]This one is for ALL members of the BassinUSA Pro Staff: There is a lot of different water a man could chose throughout the country to catch a quick limit, but for me I'm sticking with my home waters, the Ohio River, Meldalh Pool. This time of year the fish are moving up in the creeks. They are looking for some slack water areas to get ready to spawn. In White Oak, a creek off of the Ohio, There are a few key areas to look at. The slew, a small cut in the creek that is used for docking houseboats and has several floating docks. The other is, the pond, a much larger cut further up the creek that is also used for the same reason. Lures of choice, for a quick limit, would be a 1/8oz white tandem willow leaf spinnerbait or a 1/4 oz Bill Norman baby n. Now lets start culling, 1/4oz Venom But Kicker Jig with a rattlin craw trailer or a 4in Salt series Tube by Venom Lures would be my choice for getting some larger fish in the boat

Joe, It is really interesting how the movements of Bass are related accross the country based more on length of day and angle of sun on the water. Bass as In-Fisherman magazine and Fishing Facts have always suggested are the same every where and adpt to the situations (cover, water quality, current, food and weather) it is the fishermen that prefer a method or type water based only on there temporary success. Back in New Jersey last weekend I found Bass ,Toothy critters ,yellow perch and crappie all on points with rocks that where near the first dropoff entering a creek or flat area water temp was about 55 degrees and the best spots had a southern exposure. I could use my pointer 78 in Table rock shad, and a melon pepper tube but my best fish came in the afternoon on a 1/4 oz rat-l-back jig in blue/black/purple with a bo-hawg senor in black and blue. This week I am taking some people there on Sunday and expect to find the Bass further back in the creeks and up on the flats my system of choice is a Rat-l-Trap by bill Lewis in color #52 3/4oz. the best choice or a spinnerbait of my own design. The bass are all the same just there address is different. Good Bassin Dan Bass

Joe M, I would have to say Lake Erie in late May, give me a 7 foot medium action trigger stick a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait in white or chartruce and i will get my arm broke all day by big Smallmouth Bass. I will usually burn the spinnerbait about 2 - 3 inches under the surface and wait to see a big smallie come up and crush my spinnerbait. there is not a more heart stopping experience. jeff chudzinski ohio pro staff team

Jeff, Where do we sign up, I forgot about Lake Erie in the sping. It is wild!!! But so is the wind and weather. Any one who can get the time off should spend it on Lake Erie in May, after Florida in Feb. and try to hit Lake Champlain sometime in the summer or late spring.Good Bassin' Dan Bass
