Hello everyone, good to be back on the site.
Question: Which two topwater baits do you use the most?

Super spook Jr. and the snagproof frog. On a good day, more fun than anything you can throw.

Wow those are all great picks. Topwater fishing is a ball, scary at times.
I guess mine would be Zara spook-for deep water, a buzz bait for shallow. At night I like the old standby-Jitterbug in black.
When the bass are active I prefer to wake a large bladed spinnerbait across the surface-now that's fun!!
Any one else? Johnnie

For me it depends on the time of day...

Evening early morning hours:
Buzz Bait
Zara Spook

Mid Morning:
Iovino Splash It
Rapala Original Minnow.

Yeah I noticed that mofish. Maybe that's because it casts farther than a North Korean missile test.

Try the Super spook, it's 7/8's of an ounce! It'll fly in any wind! Funny how nobody mentioned the Sammy. I went back to the Super Spook Jr. after a fling with the sammy. Spook always out fished it, although in calm water a sammy or a gunfish can be deadly. It's all about what the fish want anyway, can't force feed them.

What was the first topwater you fished?? The first one I fished was a rapala, we just twitched them on the surface. Bass would take them like a trout sucks down a fly. The lure would just disappear.

I guess the ole' Hula Popper is outdated? Caught alot of fish on them, but quit using them for some reason.

Unfortunately Johnny,
Nowadays nobody fishes slow. The Hula Popper was at its best when fished as a spit and sit bait. Sit baits aren't popular any more. If it ain't fast, it ain't good, cept for the shaky and the jig. I caught plenty of Bass on a hula letting it sit for 30 seconds to a minute after twitching it. Did the same with a rapala too! I guess the cycle hasn't come around on topwaters yet. Let some big name win a tourney working a top water slow and it will be popular again. Notice how the plastic worm is coming into vogue again?

No doubt the Hula Popper has its moments. I think you're right, not enough anglers fish slow any more-a lot of run and gun specialists.

I think that has a lot to do with society today! Everything is run and gun. Get it done as fast as you can, catch as many as you can and move on. Tournament fishing is a lot of fun but just kicking back and having a nice relaxing day on the water is just not the norm anymore (for some). I catch myself doing it all the time, got to hurry and cover as much water as I can in the small amount of time I have to fish, but when I slow down and take time to enjoy everything around me I see my fishing improving. My first boat was a little two man water spider pond hopper. I could not cover as much water so I fished slower and more covered as much of the area as I could. I caught more fish fishing that way than I do now in my big boat. If I don’t get a bit soon in the big boat I head to another area. When really I should probably slow down and do what I know to catch the fish that are there. (I know they are there because of research)

Anyway back to the point the Hula Popper was the only topwater baits in my Granddads Tackle box and they caught a lot of fish!

I took an old Hula Poopper with me today, but didn't use it. The bite was worms only-actually a snake lure-10".
