It has the markings of a Sauger-lol-could it be a new record "spotted bass"? I've seen some spots on bass but nothing like that-cool!!

Nothing wrong with the fish! This is a very common pigmentation of the skin in fish at Lake Fork in Tex. Not really sure what causes it but it is very common back in Texas. Showing up more and more in alot of fish around the country now. Some say its scars other say its just a change in pigmentation of the skin, Heck some even call it a sunburn.

Was the fish in shallow water? Most of the ones I have caught were in really shallow water with these markings.

Kinda put a whole new meaning to black bass!

Conley the fish was caught in 8 foot of water on a swim jig.

Hi Butch,

That is fairly common. Like Conley said, it's just sun spots. I have caught bass that had spots like that but they were jet-black... after being in the livewell all day, they disappeared! Meanwhile, I'm telling everyone they've gotta see this bass in my livewell with all these big spots on it. It looks like there was an oil spill or something...

BTW - it's good to hear from you...
