Hi Butch,
Yeah, the Sammy is no joke... One of my fishing partners (Dan McGarry) turned me onto the Sammy a couple of years ago and they really are something special...
Are they worth the money??? I would have to say that they are. Lucky Craft has really gotten down the method of "tuning" a bait. I have yet to buy one that didn't work perfectly right out of the package. That's a big plus when you consider how many other baits you buy and end up leaving in your box because you can't make them run true.
They are very easy to make "walk the dog" and because the bait is more stream-lined, they have a much more natural appearance from some of the other top water baits that are typically used (i.e. Zara Spook, etc.).
The other thing that stands out about these baits is the shape. I read alot about Bass forage and what types of forage Bass prefer to feed on, if given the choice. You'll almost always find Bass feeding on the long and thin bait fish, like Alewife over the short fat brim & blue gills:
The Sammy does a pretty good job of imitating these bait fish and when you let them sit still, it increases your chances for getting a "motionless" strike on a top water, especially if alewife are present in that body of water.
I hope this helps to answer your question about the Sammy...
