Alright, so we're coming down to the wire. There are various thoughts on what pattern and location might win the classic.

The river is cut down to three sections (pools) Pool 5 (boat launch area), Pool 4 & Pool 3. According to some local guides pool 4 down near the lock into Pool 3 is where the big 4 and 5 pound bass tend to live in abundance, but that's about 1 1/2 hours traveling through the Pool 5 lock and down to those honey holes.

In a recent BASS Times article I was reading, Skeet Reese (2009 Classic Winner on the Red River) commented that if he was fishing this classic, he would stay in pool 5 as he did back in 2009. He also commented that he felt that Jig fishing would be the top pattern and if he was fishing, he would also mix in a spinnerbait and square billed crankbait.

Sounds like a solid plan. What do you all thing?

I think somebody will find a way into a small backwater and camp there for all three days. He'll have to pushh his way in because its so shallow at the entrance. He's going to use a small square bill and soft plastics on wood. He won't have company in there. He'll milk the spot for all its worth and it will be a bit warmer than where the other folks are fishing. Its a 3 day tourney and he will by a small margin holding off a strong last day charge by one guy. He'll way an above avg. bag on day one and a huge bag on day two and an avg. bag on day three to win. I'll even name him for ya....nope that would be giving to much away!!!

The guys who find those big prespawn females that are moving into those slightly deeper staging areas outside the spawning bays/coves are going to have fresh fish coming to them each day. Depending on the moon phase, water temps and level these good be really key areas. Technique will come second... I was suprised more guys weren't using lipless crankbaits.

And here all I do is say, hmmmm... That name did well last year on my team or crap! I don't recognize ANY of these names, but this guy is from NH and that's close enough to local for me!

These are very scientific ways to pick teams. A lot of thought goes into each selection. :-)
