How about something from those of you preficient at chunkin jigs.
I'm catching more fish now than I used to on jigs....I guess thats because I force myself to use them more often.
I know some of you have to have some good techniques to share! I hope!

Skeeter there is several different techniques for fishing a jig but my favorite
is swimming a jig in and around cover, especially after the spawn.
I'll use a 1/4oz jig with a zoom swimming chunk. This trailer has some tremendous action. You'll let it sink down in the cover and just pump and reel it out through at a steady but slow pace. Ater the spawn the fish will tend to suspend in bushes and treetops close to the spawning flats. These fish have seen spinnerbaits and crankbaits but its something about the swimming jig that triggers some additional strikes. Hope this helps you catch a few more.

River Rat- Swimming a jig is a deadly technique as you have described. Last Fall I had the privilege of watching Brendan catch 12 bass up to 5 lbs. in about 20 minutes doing just that. I just laid my rod down and studied every move he made. Was like going to school.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Skeeter, the jig is by far the one of the best tools in your box, it can be used in a variety of ways and swimming a jig is one of my favorite ways to fish. I use a Shimano Cronarch and a Cast Away worm/jig rod and heavy 40# test braided line with a 1/8 oz. Rat-l-back casting jig or a Stanley 3/16 oz casting jig with a Bo-Hawg Sr. Pork rind, as for color Black blue purple is always been good all around choice with the exception being extremely clear water or muddy water. In Clear water I use a green pumpkin with a smaller Berkley power pork in pumpkin as well and in muddy water I use a black and chartrues jig with a black and chartrues Sr Bo-hawg Pork. It is very important to use a casting jig or jig with a thin wire hook and not a monster flipping hook, I also trim the weed gaurd by thining it out but never cut it short leave it long but thin it out. My favorite patern is at night casting the light jig out and just slowly retreving the jig when ever I encounter any resistance I just shake it throught the weeds or brush. At night the jig hits are slightly more than the mushy feeling or the tap tap you normally feel, in fact it is more like a bolt of lightning hitting you. I hope this helps good Bassin Dan Bass

skeeter, i have found that a jig and plastic trailer works great on deep weed edges. just cast the jig straight down the weedline and work the jig back along the weed wall. bass will streek out from the weeds and nail that jig hard. some of the hardest stikes i have ever had on a jig is with this method. i remember one time in november we found a school of bass on a deep weed edge and i had a strike so hard on my jig that the bass nearly pulled the rod away from me, i will never forget it.

Jeff- As I recall, Tommy Martin uses that jig technique on Toledo Bend's hydrilla beds.
I believe Tommy said essentially the same thing you did. Hold on tight because they will nail it.
Thanks for posting. Good Fishing. JoeM
