And congrats to you Ray for taking 2nd... Nice job... I kept wondering why I wasn't getting bit in a couple of my spots... I'm glad they helped you out though. (Tool Box) (I'm just kidding) I got all my fish on a Jig N pig and a Tube. I fished humps with the tube and flipped docks and lay-downs with the jig. Lunker came on the Jig out of a lay-down. That lake is always fun to fish, but the quality fish are hard to come by... And again "Way to go Joe Mo"!

Ray C. & Brendan- I appreciate the kind words.
As you all know, this wasn't a walk in the park. Earlier in the week I told Mitch that I was considering using the Yamamoto 5" split shot grub in smoke for at least half the tournament. I had found that it could produce fish in my lake in almost any weather conditions using that little SS hook (#5)that GYCB sells. It is a slow (that's s-l-o-w) presentation. I followed this plan for just about 4 hours & it produced about 5-1/2 pounds. The other 2 fish came on a Pop-R at about 11AM and on a Mudbug about 1PM. While I did better in the morning, Mitch did extremely well in the afternoon.
OK Ray, Brendan and I gave away the store, now you tell us what you caught your bass on. Thanks for posting. JoeMo
PS- I edited this because I neglected to mention that the SS Grub fish were caught using 6 lb. test Yo-Zuri fluorocarbon hybrid line that was recommended on these boards by MMT.

all of my fish came from a "senko" i didn't want to use it, but i tried everything(tx-rigged worm, spinnerbait, crankbait, and a tube)nothing but a pickerl on a spinnerbait.then i went to the "S" bait. i think all my fish came from 8ft or less. mostly around where you had rock and weed together. one came from the pine tree at the northend and one came from that pontoon boat in the south cove, you know the one brendan! all together i had 3 from the south end and 3 from the norhtend(one of the 3 was culled for a few ounces)and a few that didn't help. that was it!oh, the senko was smoke w/black flake the only color that work.

Congrats to all three of you. Thats is some kinda finish. One, Two, and Three from this board. Did you mention that at weighin? You might not want to then the competitors would be in on all the secrets this web site has to offer. (lol) Great Job Guys.

Congrats Joe, Ray, and Brendan!!!
"Hats Off" to you guys!!! I considered that to be a very tough day for most of us competitors, yet you three were able to find bass and place very well!
Not sure if it was over-confidence, lack of sleep, fishing too fast, or simply being in the wrong spots all day, but I was only able to find three bass, and my partner only two bass.
We did the Senko thing, the grub, the spinnerbait, the jig, and the tube with only minimal success.
I was extremely disappointed with my performance that day, and on a lake which has always been among one of my personal favorites. Oscawana has never let me down in the past, which only adds to my confusion. I guess it's back to the drawing board for me.

Ed,
I don't know about the other guys, but the fish wanted the bait sitting there for a long time before they picked it up. I casted to the same spot under a dock 6 times before landing a fish. I did have a few fish strike right away on the drop, but the majority came from letting the jig or tube sit still on the bottom... and it didn't make a difference in shallow or deep water.
Bottom line, you caught fish on a tuff day and hopefully you can look back and remember something that will help you out in future situations like we encountered at Oscawana.

Thanks for the encouragement Brendan. Sounds very much like I had a case of fishing way too fast. Went from banging loads of fish on Saratoga Lake just a few days before, where they were hitting baits on the drop with force, to Oscawana where they needed very slow deadsticking. I wasn't able to make that all important "speed of retrieve" adjustment so soon I guess.

Ray, Conley, Ed and Brendan-
In the morning (what was left of it, after waiting for an 8AM start. lol) I threw the SS Grub and dead-sticked it to the bottom (not unlike the way I fish a tube, except with a tube I wait for a short few seconds and set the hook- on speculation!) But because it was such a finicky day, I waited and slowly brought it back. That sort of corresponds with what Brendan says he did with his bait. (A jig or a tube, right BC?)
Conley- Thanks for the good words. Fishing in TX with guys like Ray, Brendan & Ed is tough. They keep grinding out the fish. I needed help in the morning and that little grub and little hook provided me with the chance to get in front. Wasn't too far in front (5 oz.) but it ended a long personal drought.
Ed- I was really surprised (no,I was shocked) not to see you with more or bigger fish. It happens sometimes, but like a slump in baseball, you eventually work out of it by going back to the basics. You will, I am positive of it.
Thanks to all of you for good posts. JoeMo

like brendan said they wanted it slow, the fish under the pontoon boat took 3 cast. with the last one i just let sit for a few.at other tx at the lake when we(brendan and my self) cast under it(pontoon boat) they hit right away. that told me what they wanted.just cast it out and let it fall to the bottom. just deadstick it!
don't worry ed we have forge next week. you always bounce back after a bad tx. won't be surprised if you come up big there.
joe, are we going to see you at forge? hope so! ray
