http://georgiawildlife.dnr.state.ga.us/content/printversion.asp?txtDocument=144 Hugh M. Gillis Public Fishing Area - Report for April 2004
Lake Level: Full pool.
Water temp: 60-62 degrees F.
Water clarity: lightly stained.
Bass: Good. During the March pre-spawn pattern, good action was reported using small crankbaits and suspended jerk baits. Most of these fish will be on the bed by early-April. A good bet for catching spawning or post-spawn fish can be expected by pitching a soft plastic worm or lizard in 2 to 4-feet shoreline structure. Anglers should be aware that no bass can be kept until June 2004.
Bream: Fair. Several limits of Fliers have been reported using minnows or small pieces of chartreuse Berkley Power Baits. Redear are on the upside with warming water. Look for these fish in 3 to 5-feet, fishing redworms near the bottom. Bluegill action should pick up by mid-April. Fishing near the bottom with worms or crickets at a depth of 3 to 4-feet may be your best bet.
