I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I have noticed that "Tube Baits" have been consistantly out-producing anything else that I have thrown this year! I have caught more bass on tubes this year than any other lure, and it doesn't matter much the size or color of the tube either! They have all put fish in the boat for me! does anyone else have similar results to share???

Tubes are definetely a hot bait... but, it's not just lately, they have always been awsome! They are also very versitle. They can be fished like a jig, texas rigged in trees & weeds, under docks, skipped, rigged weightless for skinny water... etc.

They are definetely a goto bait for me, in a lot of situations.

Gary Yamamotto Tubes are absolutely the best! I've used many different tubes from many different manufacturers, but Gary's tubes are #1 hands down! They are worth the extra cash because they simply last much longer than all the others! Try it for yourself! One tube lasts all day, even after catching several fish on it! The best quality tube I have evr fished! ;\) ;\) ;\)

If I didn't know you, I'd think you were sponsored by Gary!!! I must admit, I have found his baits to be awsome too. Haven't tried his tubes yet... Every other bait I used of his, crumble at the sight of a bass, let alone last all day. Kinda makes one wish it put the same courtesy into the Senko.

I know what you mean Brendan! A lot of Gary's baits fall apart very easily. However, the tubes for some reason, seem to be made more durable. I used the same one all day at Hither Hills, caught 4 fish with it, and it remained like new! You can literally feel the difference in the quality vs. others.

PS. Your website is looking really cool!!!

Stay tuned... we are in the process of redesigning the site... The new changes will add a few more features and make information much easier to find. Plus, the load time will be much faster. Thanks for the support...

Yamamoto tubes are produced for Gary by Big Boys Baits. I needled "Bubba" Puckett for almost 2 years about GYCG producing tubes. I used Gary's products back when he was the best kept secret in tournament fishing and when very few people were romancing the company. Actually I had absolutely nothing to do with getting them to sell tubes.
Ed, you are right. They are excellent. Their Q.C. Dept at Big Boys must be first rate.
Come to think of it, I still have most of them left. That is over a year ago that I bought them. Great colors, too. Including what Wally would call 3rd of July. (color 30)
Keep posting, guys. JoeM

Ed- Since answering your post back in September, I have been using Yammy Tubes exclusively. The best one (for me in that time) has been a 33 Series 3.5" in color 33
(Smoke with clear and green) Actually it is more like smoke with white tentacles. With an Insider 1/16th lead head. It's like having a license to steal!
Now, I didn't run right out and buy them. I ran right out to my shed (a.k.a. the "Dog House")and found all of them buried in other plastics. Not so anymore.
Ed, thanks again for contributing. JoeM

Joe.........STOP!!! Don't use any more of those smoke colored tubes with the white tenticles!!! There is a major health risk to watch out for!!! You may encounter massive bodily harm from one L.I.B. member!!! Just kidding! That is the exact color combination that I use! In fact, it's the only "Gary" color that I have ever used! If they are falling out of your shed, and you need someone to come over to help you clean them up, please let me know! I'll be there yesterday!!! ;\) ;\) ;\)

Ed- No, the tubes aren't falling out, but I may have to hire a Pit Bull if I get any more inquiries.
Do you use the 3.5" or the 4.5"? Whichever ones you prefer, I use the other ones. lol
Seriously, I've used a total of 3 since you
mentioned them and 2 of them on a cut-off (guess what species?) and a broken line (now guess who didn't retie?)
Thanks for contributing. JoeM

Joe.........I use the 3.5 size, and let me tell you they are dynamite! The problem I have is finding more of them! I purchased two packs of them while in Saratoga this summer, and my supply is now slowly deminished! I am having some trouble getting more, no one carries them. I think I will have to use a "life-line" and call the one and only "Charles Yamamoto Stuart!" I should have enough left to get me through the cold-water series, but I will have to conserve! You will not be seeing me throw towards any structures that could potentially snag my precious "Gary" lures! And as many will be down-sizing their line, I will be up-sizing mine for fear of breaking off and leaving a perfectly good tube behind! I was just wondering Joe.....is there a lock on your shed, and is your yard well lit at night? Do you have any dogs, and if you do, would they eat steak? Do you own any weapons, and if you do are they always kept loaded? I'm only asking because I'm doing research on "The heavily armed people of Connecticut, who keep their steak-eating attack dogs locked in well lit tool sheds at night." Not because I would ever think about stealing your "Gary Tubes" while you were sleeping! That would be just silly! LOL \:D \:D \:D

I don't know if anyone has heard of Snoozers baits but I have used them all year and they are durable as heck. I have to admit I have never used GY's tubes but, that is because I never had a reason to as these snoozers tubes are awesome. They are made w/ garlic scent and it seems as if Bass just hold on to these things and NEVER let go! Try em' you'll like em'

AKO- Sounds like JohnG or John Bucketmouth has been talking with you. They are good tubes, also. I bought some from the rear of "someone's" car back in June over at Mahopac. They were Camo Road Kill. I had to buy an air freshener for my van about 3 days later. Came close to trading it in, but the dealer wouldn't take it in trade. lol
Other good tubes are Nichols (buy them from No. Bass)and Strike King and let's not forget Budz in NJ.
Ed- Don't ask Charles for Yammy Tubes. Budz will be P.O.'ed if CS even mentions another mfgrs. tube product. JoeM

The tubes we all love, Smoke w/ Black and Hologram, Price: $3.49 - 10/bag! I could feel my blood pressure going down now! Now I can relax! I will soon have new tubes! LOL

Ed- I guess I'm confused. Where did you buy the Yammy tubes the first time you got them?
Causeway? I doubt it if you were worried about getting more. After all, Causeway isn't too far from you.
Or were they another of those "Gee, look what I won in the darkhorse!". lol
If I was on LI tomorrow, I would give you my last 6 tubes in your favorite color, just because you are a great guy. (True statement but I won't be on L.I.)
Sorry, JoeM

Joe.........As I mentioned in one of my posts above, I purchaced the "Gary" tubes at a small tackle shop, near one of my favorite lakes in Saratoga, N.Y. this past summer. The lake is called "Lake Lonely", and it is part of the Saratoga Lake chain. A quaint little tackle shop sits right at the launch ramp of Lake Lonely. When my cousin and I returned to the ramp from a moring of fishing, we unloaded our catch of 6 bass so that we could take a few pictures (and also to show off). Apparently, the locals up there have a very hard time catching bass there, and are extremely impressed when our boat arrives back at the ramp each time! They bombard us with questions, and ask to see our equipment and lures! It is always a great feeling, and of course, L.I.B. gets mentioned many times! Anyway, they asked me to come into the tackle shop, and point out what I thought were good lures. I went right over to the wall where they had a huge assortment of "Gary Yammomoto" products and noticed three packs of smoke-colored tubes! I said, "wow, I like the looks of these tubes right here!" But before I could get all three packs off the wall, the owner of the shop grabbed the last one and told me, "I'm taking this one!" "We have a Wednesday night tournament here this week, and I'm going to win with these!" It was absolutely a great feeling for me to be able to offer information about bass fishing! I couldn't help but to reflect back at my own accomplishments in this sport. That's when it finally hit me, I knew that I had become the competitive bass fisherman that I originally set out to be! I wanted to take each one of these locals back out on the lake that day for a personally guided bass fishing experience! I know this was a bit more information than what you were asking for Joe! LOL But once I got going, I was on a roll! Talk more soon! ED

I tried the drop shot system with my tubes.
2(1/0 hooks)_ 4" above the jighead, and would belive most of my fish where caught on the hooks not the jig. If you try this let me know how you do......

Tube lures are a part of my tournament approach, I either rig them weight-less using a 3/0 tube hook or weed-less using a OLDHAM weighted/weed-less hook. I have been very happy with Chompers tubes, the fish hold on and very rarely drop the tube.

As anyone who knows me, reads my magazine column, or the posting on this site can tell, there will be no disagreement from me on the results from tubes. This is my primary lure. I flip, pitch, crawl, and swim the things. My primary colors are black/red flake or smoke/red flake, watermelon, and pumpkinseed. When swimming I use a open hook lead head. Otherwise it is Texas rigged with an XPoint XGap hook.

As for brands, I've used several, but have been extremely impressed with Mann's Jelly Tube. I like the size, texture, wall thickness, and the addition of a little garlic. Although not a great deal, I have used the floating insert, which comes with the lures.

With all of my tubes I inject a small amount of Kodiak Paste (crawfish when fishing bottom, and shad or minnow when swimming the lure).

Ed, Tubes always were big fish producers, they were the "senko" of the eighties when western bass legend Bobby Garland started winning big with them. There is no doubt that they catch fish and as he said the lighter the weight the more effective at times they can be. As a side note have you noticed when the water temp is lower you catch more bass on it using a drag retreve and most Bass are caught through their bottom lip. Getting back to the point all tubes catch fish my new favorite has been the "Bass Pro shops tender tubes" but I fish all kinds as for colors I like any but my favorite is "watermelon pepper","pumpkin pepper" and "Pumpkin Blue Flake". You are probably catching more Bass on them becuase you are using them more and you will catch more on a bait that you have confidence in and keep putting in the water, as example a grub or spinnerbait will catch fish as well, but if you are using the tube all the time it is very hard for a Bass to hit them in the rod locker. THe point is all baits (Tools) catch fish but Location always dictates presntation and we should not look for places to use our favorite technique but instead find the Bass and fish with confidence and without fear!!! Good Bassin' Dan Bass

Ed- I think all bass anglers have found out how effective a tube is, it has become a go-to bait for me when the chips are down. I haven't fished Gary's tubes because they are a little pricy, I fish with Rite Bite tubes, they have 87 different colors so I am sure everyone can find the colors they like. These tubes stand up to alot of punishment and they are loaded with salt. I fish alot of tubes for Smallmouth on Lake Erie and we have tried alot of tubes that are out there and Rite Bite is the best so far.
