I just replaced my exhisting trolling motor with a minnkota. The Minnkota is an: all terrain 55, with a weed-less wedge prop. I want to let everyone know this is the most weed-less and quiet motor I have ever used. I'm now sold on minnkota provided the longevity is maintained. I'm curious if other minnkota owners feel the same, or will my happiness wear off?

Butch, it will wear off as soon as you get a Motorguide!!! I have had both and they are both very good, but I love my Motorguide!!! Never ever discuss religion, politics plastic worm color or trolling motor brands. JUst kidding I am glad to hear you like that motor. Good Bassin Dan Bass

Dan now you have forced me to come clean:I replaced a motorguide! FYI: Only the non-gator mount types were in my price range. And those type clunk everytime you energize the motor. The minnkota has in my opinion a better bracket design. I can tell you for sure that it does not clunk. I won some tourney money recently and as you can guess it went on a minnkota. FYI: the sales person at BPS in Gurnee (chicago) said they are no longer going to sell motorguide because of problems. Don't know if it was truth or fiction?

I have a Minnkota 74 on my Stratos. Man I love it. I have had both and I would have to say the minnkota is the one I will keep. It is wonderful.

Motorguide has had problems the past two years at the factory for various reason. However, I am still a Motorguide fan. The steel Machette prop is a true weedless prop, or weed wacker I should say. I can cut through spadder dock, 1" diameter bullrush, or anything that gets in my way, allowing me to reach water others can't. Hopefully Motorguide will fix the problems soon as I'm going for a new boat, just may have to keep the motor I currently have, just to be safe.

As Dan and Tim know, I prefer 4 letter words (Minn and Kota) vs. 5 letter words (Motor and Guide). Other than that I have no opinion
at all (except when it is my hard earned cash doing the buying)
And who ever came up with that ridiculous name "trolling motor"? Trolling is probably the only thing I haven't done with mine.
I have one friend who has a 70+ lbs thrust TM on his 12' jonboat. Doc hit the prop on a rock close to shore, knocked the prop off the motor, managed to find the prop in the anything-but-clear water and somehow got it back on the motor and we kept fishing. What brand was it? Now, do you think I'd stoop that low just to make a point? My lips are sealed. JoeM Moderator
