RNE, I have never heard of these baits, but I fish real shallow lakes, with areas that are choked with coontail (I mean really really thick), obviously the bass love it, but it takes alot of patience to fish. I was wondering how weedless is this bait, can it be rolled through these weeds? I found them for sale on BPS, what is your favorite size and color? Thanks for sharing these lures and for your help.
I’ve tossed them into the worst messes you can find, pads, coontail, edgeweed (a lot of that in Oklahoma lakes), cattails, jungle jim wood, and more than a few boat dock/houses where there is thick cover put in by the owners. Places you
can’t throw a buzzbait.
I noted the comments about running it slow rolled on the bottom, never tried that. Might have to.
Is it 100% snagproof? Of course not, no bait that I’ve ever used is. But the way it runs, hook up, the forward mounted prop and the fairly effective weedguard do a very good job.
One of the advantages of the Weed Wing is the ability to slow it way down when used with a good size pork chunk or equivalent. Far slower than a buzz can be, and presents a nice bait-like profile from underneath.
From your description of the water you fish it would make an excellent addition to your tackle bag.
Colors? Almost exclusively silver, in both sizes. But I do have one black and painted more than a few white. The earlier bait was only available in Silver, Black and Gold if memory serves. I see they’re going to produce it in a variety of colors this time.
Is it “The Miracle Bait of the Millennium”! No, like any other tool in your tackle selection it has a time and place. But when that time and place is off the port side of your boat or a decent cast from your place on the bank nothing else produces like it can.
