In the newspaper, i saw a write-up on a man from Lakeland, FL (My City) that went fishing in the Gulf of Mexico for Big Black Grouper. He had been going to this same spot often and was getting broken off every time even though he was using some tough 80lb test Ande Line. He kept fishing and he hooked into a monster, and it started smoking drag off, so he locked his reel. He knew he might be broken off again but he fought the fish. The fish tired out quickly and he landed it in 10 minutes. The ALL TACLKE WORLD RECORD for BLACK GROUPER is 114 LB, caught in the Gulf of Mexico out of Galveston, Texas by Stanley W. Sweet in 1997. The man from Lakeland, ALAN THOMPSON, caught the Grouper weighing in at 105.3 LB-----After it regurgitated a 10LB fish. So he missed the record, but if only that fish could have held his lunch down and not got soooooooo seasick, this man would have a new record!!!! Oh well I wanted to share that with you guys, i saw it in my local newspaper and thought it was neat. But I would hate to miss a record just because my fish couldnt hold his lunch!! :p ;\)

Cole, if I caught a fish like that, "I" couldn't hold my lunch, it would scare me to death, I hardly weigh that much. That Thompson was no relation to you was he? Good anglers may run in the family. Johnnie \:\)

No sorry he isnt related to me, but fishing does run in the family. I would like to get to know him though, he sure knows some great fishing in the Gulf of Mexico.
