 There are several tools for a tournament bass fishing angler to use to help take top honors at the final weigh-in. The "backbone" that's in our fishing arsenal is the rod and reel. There are countless combinations at our disposal. Rod and reel companies are continuously flooding us with new and better products. Gone are the days when one combo would work for everything. While it would be nice to have 20 different combos to choose from, you can actually get by with six basic sets that will let you make the proper presentation you need to make.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — B.A.S.S., upon the recommendation of its Bassmaster Elite Series Rules Committee, has amended its tournament rules to limit anglers competing in the Bassmaster Classic and Bassmaster Elite Series to the use of a single lure during practice and competition. The rule change, which does not apply to Bassmaster Open, B.A.S.S. Federation Nation, College B.A.S.S. and other events, clarifies the intent of long-standing rules permitting only one rod, one reel and one cast at a time. No longer permitted are double soft jerkbait rigs, drop shot rigs with jigs used as weights, double topwater setups and other multi-lure rigs, such as “umbrella rigs.”

If you have not been out to Richland-Chambers reservoir lately, you might want to consider a trip in the near future. The bass are beginning their fall pattern, which means they are moving to the mouths of and into the creeks chasing shad. The sandbass and hybrids are also schooling on the south end of the lake, according to some local anglers, like Bill Young of Corsicana. Bill and his family recently caught 60-70 sandies and hybrids schooling on the top, near the dam.

There’s monofilament, fluorocarbon, copolymer, fused superlines, braided lines, hollow core braided line, etc. It’s enough to make you want to take up golf instead!

Most anglers trim the skirts on jigs and spinnerbaits, to help prevent short strikes. Instead of holding the bait with the hook down, like most anglers, turn the bait over, with the hook pointing up, and then trim the skirt. What this does is make the strands uneven, causing the skirt to flare out, giving it a bigger profile |
